THE UK HAS LEFT THE EU AND THE TRANSITION PERIOD AFTER BREXIT WILL END ON 31.12.20

RESIDENCY


If you are resident in Italy before the transition period ends on 31.12.20, you will be able to stay.


It is advisable to obtain one of the following documents from the town hall:



  • An Attestazione di iscrizione anagrafica (if resident for less than 5 years)

  • An Attestazione di regolarità di soggiorno or attestazione di soggiorno permanente (if resident for more than 5 years)


The rules on the residency process remain unchanged during the transition period.


HEALTHCARE


If you are living in Italy or move here permanently before 31.12.20, you will have health care rights in Italy until you remain resident. After you have registered your residency, you need to register with the Italian National Health service. You can register if:



  • You have an Italian work contract;

  • You hold an Attestazione di Soggiorno Permanente;

  • You hold a Uk social security form such as S1 form for pensioners.


If you don’t fall into one of the above categories, you may be able to register by paying an annual fee.


PASSPORTS AND TRAVELS


The rules on travel will stay the same until the transition period ends on 31.12.20. During this time, you can continue to travel to countries in the Schengen area or elsewhere in the EU with your UK. Check your passport is valid for travel before you book your trip as your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. 


DRIVING IN ITALY


Driving license rules will stay the same until 31.12.20. If you are a resident in Italy exchange your driving license before 31.12.20.
